A while ago I decided to do some deejay portraits and started collecting heaps of material to be able to extract the essence of them all.
I noticed that most deejay shots are filled with spotlight reflections and people going crazy on the dancefloor. The DJ as a true star, so to speak.
But people tend to forget that it takes years of dedication to get to a point where you can call yourself a half-decent DJ.
That's what this painting saying. It is not about the success and the flashing lights. It's not about the parties and crowds going wild. It's about the many hours spent. Mostly all alone. Just trying to get it right.
I loved locking myself in the basement with a fresh collection of vinyl, my sl1200's and my rodec.
And when I think of it, those were some of the best times I have ever had..
Here's my tribute to the DJ, 'Turntablist'.
